After 2 flat tires in 5 weeks...

I got 3 flat tires today. All 3 today were rear tires; all 3 from truck tire wire in "the debris lane" (sometimes known as "the bike lane", or "the break down lane". Maybe, for me, today, it was the "cause the breakdown lane"?)
(My 2 previous flat tires were also both rear tires - so I'm 5 for 5! If only my batting average was so good.)

  1. we had 28 in 7116 miles (in mountain bike era circa 1995 when decent road tires were hard to come by so we had to get a junker here and there). Also went through 7 or 8 tires, can't quite remember (tandem is rough on tubes and tires because of extra weight). Plus, solid axle rear, bolted on with extra drum brake attachment, so pain in but to change rear (where they most often occurred of course). Fun following your adventure.

    1. The front tire is in near pristine shape; the rear has some tread wear and lots of cuts/nicks etc. I put some pieces of Tire Boot on the inside of the major cuts/nicks, and swapped front/rear tires.
My front tube is good. My rear tube and all 3 spare tubes are now patched. (I started w 2 spare tubes, then picked up another one on the trip)
Figure I better buy a new tire soon, maybe in Phoenix? (I do have a light, folding spare tire too - but I want to save that, as it is a good spare, but not a tough touring tire)
Look forward to riding with you guys again; maybe on a local tour?! Heidi and I like the 4 day tour thing, at home. Devil's Lake SP, Spring Green area, Gov Dodge SP, Blue Mounds SP, etc. Lots of good options! How about Kettle Moraine, South and North?

    2. Definitely, or maybe join us for the Nova Scotia Cabot's trail tour we hope to do as some point (Mary says July, I highly doubt it). I am still figuring out how we could meet you for part of your trip!
Good luck - it brings back such good memories (we had huge winds in Wyoming . . . one day we are killing ourselves all morning against the wind and we run into a guy coming the other way and the first thing he does is complain about how he is beat up from biking against the wind :-))
